Monstro is a catamaran boat hull that I designed and modeled in Autodesk Inventor as part of the Apprentice School's annual SNAME Boat Design Competition. The competition is entered by high schools around the Hampton Roads area and aims to increase awareness of shipbuilding and naval architecture while utilizing principles in engineering and mathematics.
Monstro was selected as one of four finalists out of about 40 entrants in the 2016 competition, and was constructed from sheet metal by the Apprentice School. Out of the four finalists, it won first place in a series of piloted competitions on Lake Maury in Newport News, including an obstacle course and a drag race. The following year, the boat was invited back to Lake Maury to compete in a 10th anniversary championship event, where it won first place again.
